Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! The children received warm welcome on a chilly start to the new term. It was lovely to watch them come in on Thursday, full of enthusiasm and pleased to be back at school. It was also lovely to see some new faces joining us, who have already begun to settle in to their respective classes.
We have lots of exciting things planned for the term ahead, beginning with a planetarium experience with Space Dome on Monday for Years 5 and 6. We're excited about a new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) project, an inter-school spelling challenge, educational workshops with Eton College and a visit from Bishop David.
Our Early Years Department have a new playground, we have a diary packed full of sports fixtures and lots of class-led Assemblies and Liturgies already in the planning.
With only two days of the new term under our belt, Year 6 have already started sharing the book they had read through the holidays. They gave a brief summary and a rating out of 5 – it is always good to share a good book!
They also discussed 2022 being a HARSHAD number…. prizes for any parents who know what that is, and no conferring with your children!
Year 3 have started work on their new class novel – The Wild Way Home by Sophie Kirtley, and they have been using their prediction skills to ponder over what the book might be about using the front cover and the blurb.
In Maths the children had a fun starter activity to try and solve a riddle. After completing lots of very complicated mathematical calculations they were not impressed to find out what the answer was! Another challenge for the parents:
As I was going to St Ives
I met a man with seven wives
Every wife had seven sacks
Every sack had seven cats
Every cat had seven kits
Kits, cats, sacks, wives
How many were going to St Ives?
In Year 2 the focus has been on the individual. The children have started the term with a book called ‘You are Special’ by Max Lucado. The book reminds us how special and unique we all are in the eyes of God and how we should use our words to build others up and encourage them to be the best version of themselves that they can be. It also reminds us that we cannot control what others say about us, but that we can control how we let these affect us and how our differences make us special.
So, as you can see it is going to be a busy term full of experiences, learning and fun.
