Dear Parents,
On Monday we welcomed a special visitor in the shape of an RE Inspector, from the Diocese of Northampton, for an IMV (Interim Monitoring Visit). Inspections of any kind evoke some apprehension, but it is always valuable to have people look at the school with fresh eyes. We are still waiting for the full report, but when the inspector told me that he was "in awe" of our school, I could not help but feel incredibly proud. I look forward to sharing the full report with you when we receive it.

Upper Prep Assembly
Our inspector joined us for Assembly on Monday morning to learn about our Mission Statement from Upper Prep (Year 2). It was a beautiful Assembly. The children learnt all their words by heart, spoke clearly and conveyed an important message on love and respect. They are fantastic ambassadors for our school! Well done Upper Prep.

Cinderella and Sherlock Holmes
Between rehearsing for Father Kevin's Mass, sitting GCSE maths papers, science assessments and learning about Greater Betterment in RE, Remove (Year 6) have been rehearsing for their musical production of Cinderella and Sherlock Holmes. This week the school and grandparents enjoyed the dress rehearsal, and tonight we look forward to sharing our play with the parents. It has been wonderful to watch the children shed their inhibitions and get up on stage. It has been a lot of hard work, but we have had lots of laughs and hope you enjoy watching it as much as the children have enjoyed preparing for it.

Upper Trans
A special mention goes to Hailee, Annika, Esha and Simran, who have worked so hard to produce a fantastic timeline of French Presidents. The girls have taken enormous care and even spent some of their lunch hour on the work. Well done.
In RE this week we asked the children in Upper Trans (Year 5) to bring in an item and share with us why it was special to them. It has been wonderful to hear the children talk about family members, friends and events with such affection. It has been a privilege to share these special memories as a year group.

Mr B's Sports Report
Cricket
This week our Under 9A and B cricket teams travelled to Long Close. Both of our teams put up an outstanding performance and convincingly won their matches. Overall, our boys showed very good all-round skills with plenty of wickets taken, and some exquisite shots played off the bat, which resulted in quite a few boundaries being scored. This was a great result for both of our teams. Well done to all the players and congratulations to both Aaron and Eesah for being nominated as the MVP for their teams.
Rounders
On Tuesday our Year 4’s welcomed Long Close School for a rounders match. Both teams were up for the challenge in what was closely contested match. The fielding and batting skills on display was testament to how hard these girls have been working in their lessons. The game ended with a good win for St Bernard’s by beating their opposition by 6 and a half rounders to 2 and a half. Well done to all the players and congratulations to Elle who was nominated as the team’s MVP.

We're Hiring!
As part of their RE this week, Transition (Year 4) have been replying to a job advert, recruiting for St Bernard's Prep School's Saint. Each child had to respond to the job advert, outlining why they would make a good saint. The children then presented their case to their peers, who when then asked if they would hire them. The children threw themselves into the exercise and created some very persuasive pieces that they articulated beautifully.

Mrs Verma's Big Ideas for Curious Minds
As a school we love to stretch and challenge our children, to enrich their education beyond the curriculum. Every week I will be sharing with you some discussion topics, new vocabulary, Maths riddles and book recommendations, that will infect our children with a love of learning. These will all be posted in the Parent Portal section of our website as well.

Word of the week: Reverberate (verb)
When a loud sound reverberates around a place, it echoes through it.
The sound of the school bell reverberated around the playground.

In The News This Week - A special monument at Waterloo Station
A statue has been unveiled at London Waterloo train station to mark the Windrush generation.
The monument shows a man, woman and child standing on top of suitcases, and pays tribute to the thousands of people who arrived in the UK from Caribbean countries between 1948 and 1971.
The £1 million funding for the statue was provided by the government.
Unveiled on Wednesday 22nd June, Windrush Day: a day to remember and celebrate the Windrush generation who came from the Caribbean to help rebuild Britain after the war.
The statue was designed by Jamaican artist and sculptor Basil Watson.
