Dear Parents,
Another busy week and one without a bank holiday! I have been lucky enough to accompany Year 6 to France and have been informed that although the school has been busy it has been unusually quiet - what ever could they mean?
We have had a wonderful time in Rue. The children have had so many new experiences and made new memories, from the fish museum to snail tasting and water sports to scavenger hunts it has been a blast, as well as being thought-provoking when visiting the Battlefields of Somme. It was a truly humbling experience for us all, and we are incredibly proud of the children for respectfully commemorating those who sacrificed so much.
The children fully embraced every aspect of the trip including the spontaneous dancing and singing at every spare opportunity.
It was a pleasure to take your children away and each and every one of them is a credit to you.

Achievements:
Avani (Y3) and Jaiden (EY1) completed Spartan Kids event on Saturday 29th April. It was Jaiden's first Spartan event as he is 4yrs old. It was Avani's 6th event. What a great achievement!
Shrijay (EY2) received a participation medal for Gymnastics. Well Done Shrijay!
Huge congratulations to Hasitha (UTW) for passing her Music Theory Grade 2 with distinction.
Aahva (UTY), has been awarded a Young Writers Award. Due to Aahva's love of English, she recently entered a writing competition, and wrote a beautiful poem about the King's Coronation. She received her award this week and was informed her poem has been selected for publication. What a wonderful accolade!

Year 3 Aesop's Workshop
Last Friday, Aesop's Touring Theatre Company performed the play 'The Story of Aesop's Fables' for the children in Lower Transition. The play was entertaining and interactive, and the children were totally transfixed and engaged throughout. The performance provided us with the perfect ‘stunning starter’ to our work on Aesop’s Fables! This week the children have been analysing fables and their morals and have been identifying the key features of this writing genre. To round off this amazing week, the children have written their own fables including some thought-provoking morals. Can you think of any Aesop's fables? Which is your favourite and why?

Upper Trans W Liturgy
On Wednesday 17th May, Upper Trans W led a thoughtful Liturgy to reflect on the Feast of the Ascension. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he told his disciples to do something. Jesus told them to tell everyone in the whole world about him. And that is exactly what they did. There was no Internet, no mobile phones, no planes, cars or trains… so they had a very hard job to tell the whole world about him! The children delivered their lines beautifully and shared an important message of how Jesus' job is not finished yet - we can all play a part in communicating Jesus' message in our home, in our school and in our communities.

Upper Trans Y Assembly
In our RE lessons this term, Upper Trans have been learning about the power of the Holy Spirit in the transformation of people's lives. This morning, Upper Trans Y shared this learning with the rest of the school through their class assembly. We thought about the inevitability of change in our lives and the only thing we can control being how we react to changes that occur. Through our story we considered how we can react to change. We look at the changes that potatoes, eggs and coffee undergo when faced with the challenge of being placed into boiling water. How do you react when facing challenges? Do you become soft and weak like the potato? Do you become hard and inflexible like the egg? Or perhaps, like the coffee bean, you take on the challenge you face and turn it into something new and exciting.

The children in all year groups have been busy working extremely hard developing their handwriting this week, perfecting their SATIPS National Handwriting Competition entries ready to post. As the current joint-winners for 2022, the pressure is on and we have high hopes and aspirations to defend our title! Well done and good luck to all children taking part in this prestigious competition. Watch this space...

PE NEWS - Year 5 Inter-House Rounders
Last Friday our Year 5 children participated in an Inter-house Rounders Tournament. The children all came out firing with some fantastic all round skill with both the bat and ball. We saw some outstanding shots being hit which resulted in many rounders being scored, and the fielders were extremely accurate in throwing to the bases and also taking a few phenomenal catches. Team John were the overall winners of the tournament, with Team Matthew being runners-up. Well done to all the players on the day and a special congratulations to Shyla, Aarav, Dhaani and Arav for all being their respective team’s MVP on the day.

We are so excited to announce FOPS will be holding a Summer Fete this year, it seems like such a long time since we have been able to hold a Summer Fete, and we are really looking forward to getting the St Bernard's family together for this fabulous event. The Fete will be held on Friday 30th June from 3pm - 6pm. There will be a FOPs meeting on Tuesday 6th June at 9am to organise the event and all parents are welcome to get involved. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and form lifelong friendships. Thank you to our FOPs members for their continued support to our school.
