Dear Parents
It has been another busy week at St Bernard's Prep. We started of the week with a virtual reality experience for years 4, 5 and 6 relating to their Geography lessons. The children were in awe of this 3D experience and I heard all about the lion's getting up close and personal!
Our Key Stage 1 children have been buzzing with excitement about their Bee Musical performance! They have been practising their songs and dances and were so enthusiastic to show off their hard work, the Bee Bop was definitely my favourite!
Meanwhile, our Year 6 children are rehearsing for their performance of Shakespeare's "The Tempest!" They have been working hard to perfect their lines and bring this classic play to life. There have already been some interesting interpretations of roles and I can honestly say Mrs Whittaker and I are aching from showing off our dance moves.

Lamy Pen Awards
We are delighted to congratulate the following children in Transition (Y4) for being awarded with their first Lamy fountain pen during today's Assembly.
The children have been working extremely hard to develop their cursive handwriting and through close monitoring, we believe they have achieved a consistently high standard of handwriting in all subject books - well done!
I look forward to seeing their beautiful handwriting in ink!

Berkshire Maestros
Once again, we are really excited to be taking part in the Junior Music festival with the Berkshire Maestros. The concert will be taking place on Wednesday 28th June at the Hexagon in Reading. We attended our first rehearsal this week, where our children were impeccably behaved and sang beautifully, both Mrs Kimberley and Mrs Whittaker couldn’t have been prouder. The children have also written some lovely responses to questions about music – these responses will be used during the concerts as narration between the songs. Naomi Hinton, the event's administrator, was blown away with the answers the children gave. This event gives the children an amazing experience with the opportunity to sing with lots of other schools accompanied by a full band of musicians. The tickets are already on sale at the Hexagon if you would like to support us.

Trans K Liturgy
Trans K delivered a Liturgy to the school and parents on Wednesday, focussing on the importance of building bridges of love and friendship with everyone around us. We were reminded of Jesus' important message where he wanted everyone to know that God’s capacity to love and forgive was never-ending, and no matter what we do wrong, we will always be forgiven.

Trans T Assembly
Trans T led an Assembly today about appearances and raised awareness of the importance of not judging a book by its cover. The children re-enacted the story of Jesus welcoming the little children from Matthew 19:13-15. The story taught us that even though Jesus was very busy, he still had time for children. He did not regard them as less important because they were young or small. He saw that, on the inside, the children were very special. Here at St Bernard’s Preparatory school, every child is special and valued. Each has gifts and qualities which are special to them. They are all a valuable part of the school community. To finish off, they performed the song 'This is Me' which left everyone speechless...Mrs Thapar couldn't be prouder!

Gardening in Junior Dukes this week
As part of our Junior Dukes' Program we aim to give the children a wide variety of life skills, including gardening and weeding! The children approached this task with determination and great team work. Well done to Kabir for his perseverance to remove a particular stubborn stump. Evie said at the end of the session she didn't realise gardening could be such fun!

Lower Trans Maths
Lower Trans (Y3) really enjoyed their maths lesson this morning, they were using Telling the Time dominoes outside in the sunshine. What a wonderful way to learn an important life skill and appreciate the good weather at the same time!

Upper Trans Artwork
Upper Trans (Y5) loved getting their hands messy using pastels during our RE/Art lesson this week. The children were given the challenge to create a piece of artwork which encapsulates the energy and transforming power of the Holy Spirit. We think the beautiful silhouettes and vibrant colours do just that!
