Dear Parents,

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break, filled with peace and special moments with loved ones.

Following our snowy start on Tuesday and the initial excitement of being back, the children have quickly settled into their routines. As we begin this new term, we are thrilled to embark on another chapter of our learning journey together. The weeks ahead promise exciting activities, new challenges, fantastic trips, sporting events and countless opportunities for growth and discovery. Let us work together to make this term productive, supportive, and inspiring for everyone.

I am so glad to have all of our classrooms buzzing with energy and enthusiasm once again.

Inset Day

On Monday, all our staff came together for a fantastic day of professional development and collaboration.

Mrs. Underwood led a session focused on promoting children’s wellbeing. The training explored strategies to help children manage emotions, build resilience, and develop a positive mindset. Staff discussed practical ways to create supportive classroom environments where every child feels valued and safe. By prioritising wellbeing, we aim to equip our children with the skills they need to thrive both in school and beyond.

Mrs. Kimberley led an equally inspiring session on "Thinking Schools," an innovative approach to developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills in children. Teachers were introduced to tools and strategies designed to foster independent, reflective thinking across all areas of learning. By embedding a "thinking culture," we aim to empower children to take ownership of their education and cultivate skills which will serve them for life. I am very excited to see the impact of these approaches in our classrooms!

Wellbeing Weekend Wisdom

After a busy start to the term, it’s important to take some time this weekend to focus on your wellbeing. Why not set aside a few hours for activities that you enjoy? Whether it's diving into a good book or taking a stroll in the fresh air, these can help recharge your batteries.

Don’t forget to try a bit of mindfulness, perhaps through some simple meditation or yoga to help you relax. Remember, catching up with friends or family, whether it’s over a meal or simply a chat on the phone, can lift your spirits. Enjoy your weekend!

Yoga for Parents In January - Message from Nico's Dad (Y4)

I'm very excited to offer yoga to the parents at our wonderful school. The school is very supportive of the activity and have agreed to let me hire the hall so I can offer this to you all. Starting in January 2025, this is a great way for you to kick start 2025 with new intentions full of self care. As this is a brand new initiative at St Bernard's Prep, all classes in January will be offered free of charge (16, 23, 30 January). Thereafter, just £8 per class. Message me on 07557 391 890 to join. Please note, classes are suitable for all levels - whether you are a seasoned yogi, or you've always wanted to give it a go - everyone is welcome. Look forward to seeing you on the mat! Best wishes for the festive season - Kamil

I'm sure many of you know that we lost a very valued member of our school family during the Christmas break. Mrs Kanti Dugg, a longstanding current parent, played an integral role in the life of the school. She was generous with both her time and talents. Unfortunately, she lost her battle against cancer, but she fought a good fight and always remained positive. She always fought for her children too and was their number one cheerleader. She was strong in both personality and character and loved fiercely, and I don't think we will ever forget her Glaswegian laugh too!
She really was a remarkable woman who was the epitome of hope and we are blessed to have known her. Kanti was also very spiritual, so I know prayers would be very much appreciated.

The family have set up a JustGiving page in memory of Kanti and have asked me to share the link with you all.

Have a peaceful weekend.
