Trips and Visits
At St. Bernard’s Prep. we recognise that Educational Visits and learning outside of the classroom is an important part of children’s education.
Safely managed educational visits with a clearly defined objective truly enhance our broad and balanced curriculum. Throughout the year the children are taken to a variety of venues including, places of worship, art galleries, theatres, sites of historical interest and the great outdoors.
As a culmination of their learning the children in Year 6 spend a week in France staying the Chateau du Broutel, where they enjoy a range of activities such as zip wires and archery. During the week they visit the sea life centre at Boulogne, see confectionery being made, which they get to sample! To reinforce their understanding of World War 1 they spend a day visiting the Somme which they find most thought provoking.
Educational visits can be used to consolidate learning. Within KS2 each year studies a different world faith and during the course of the year they will visit a Gurdwara, Mosque, Mandir or Synagogue. We frequently visit sites of historical interest which include Windsor castle, Hampton Court, The Victorian school room and our local church. To broaden the children’s interests we take them to a variety of theatrical performances, the National Gallery and the Portrait Gallery. Museums, naturally are a wonderful tool for us, particularly in the field of science.
We frequently invite guests into our school to run musical and dramatic workshops with the children and bring theatre groups into school.
